Instructions

  2. Combine flour and salt in a mixing bowl; add yeast mixture, softened butter, and egg. Knead until smooth (5–7 minutes). Let rise until doubled (1 hour).
  3. Prepare almond topping by melting butter, sugar, honey, and cream in a saucepan; stir in sliced almonds.
  4. Press risen dough into greased pan and top with almond mixture; let rise again (20–30 minutes).
  5. Bake at 350°F until golden brown (25–30 minutes). Cool completely before slicing horizontally.
  6. For custard filling, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, salt, milk, and egg yolks in a saucepan; cook until thickened while whisking constantly. Stir in butter and vanilla; cool.
  7. Assemble by spreading custard on the bottom cake layer; place the top layer back on and chill before serving.
