  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried)
  • 1 lb ground beef sausage
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded (or Swiss cheese)
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Caramelize onions by cooking sliced onions in olive oil with sugar over low heat for about 20 minutes until golden and sweet. Stir in thyme and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef sausage, shredded cheese, Dijon mustard, salt, pepper, and cooled onions until well combined.
  3. Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface; cut each sheet into rectangles.
  4. Place filling along the center of each rectangle, fold over the pastry, and seal edges with water.
  5. Cut into smaller pieces, brush tops with beaten egg, and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
